As for damage, I don't think you'd lose too much if you went Sylvan sorcerer. Rather, what you'd probably miss out on is a few defenses (mainly resists) and a slightly wider spell selection. You want spontaneous casters for the merged list ideally since it adds a ton of spells which covers your main weakness. And since lich/angel have the best spells for blasting you can focus on taking utility spells from your class without falling behind.
