The first thing I noticed was how spectacular this handguard looked. It has a cool, non-symetrical, look to it. Not the standard grid pattern one would expect. I also noticed the quality put into the handguard. But then I picked it up, and wow, it is light.You can get a carbon fiber handguard which will not heat up anywhere near as quickly, Troy, Smoke Composites, and many other companies make nice ones. You can also use a Manta Tac Wrap, KE SHTF+ Wrap, or a Camo Form Wrap on any handguard which will shield you from the heat. However they also add the most weight. I'm running the handguard and stock on my GMR-15. Handguard was as heavy as the stock barrel nut, so i removed like 11 ozs from the front of the gun. Stock is very adjustable and feels great against the shoulder. I initially had issues with the stock "shortening" as i shot, but once i torqued the screw down further, that fixed the issue.Here are the approximate weights of various buttstock setups: Smoke Composites carbon fiber buffer tube and a lightweight aluminum buttstock = 5 oz. I have the 17" Faxon Firearms carbon fiber hand guard with a V7 titanium barrel nut. I wish I had gone with the Smoke hand guard at a custom length. The two nut clamp on the Faxon just gets in the way of a mag well grip, but it's just nitpicking. I have the Smoke stock with the closed shoulder, cheek rest, buttpad upgrade, in rifle length.. Smoke Composites has an off the shelf 7.25" which "might" work but it'd be tight trying to get fingers in there to adjust the gas with a suppressor on. Edit-Actually have one with an aminal.I have the 17" Faxon Firearms carbon fiber hand guard with a V7 titanium barrel nut. I wish I had gone with the Smoke hand guard at a custom length. The two nut clamp on the Faxon just gets in the way of a mag well grip, but it's just nitpicking.
